Is Folly Beach or Tybee Island Better?
We personally preferred Tybee Beach because the access to the beach and roads in the area were a bit more open and seemed better layed out for visitors. We felt that Folly seemed more residential with tighter streets and we didn’t notice as many restaurants.

WHEN DO I NOT HAVE TO PAY TO PARK? All Park Folly Beach parking kiosks are free after 8:00 PM every day. Parking is free on Center Street and all side streets. However, always reference the signage to ensure parking is free and never block a private driveway.
Do you have to pay to go to Folly Beach?
Free parking is offered along the streets, but this parking often fills up first. If you can’t find any spots along the streets, you will have to pay to park at the County Park, the Folly Beach Pier or the public beach access points.
Can I walk to Folly Beach?
The beach is nice and you can walk for several miles especially if the tide is out. It is very crowded on weekends and holidays since it is only about a 20 minute drive (depending on traffic) from downtown Charleston. Alcohol is not allowed on the beach but I am sure people had it in disguised cups.
